Mathematical Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning

At WPI the different scientific fields and groups are linked by "mathematical modeling and computer simulations". Since in modern "computational sciences" so called "Artificial Intelligence" methods like Machine Learning play an increasingly important role, WPI has launched a "research division" on "Math AI/ML" with emphasis on the mathematical roots and error control of the methods that are too often used as "blackbox tools".

Both are "Research Director", a position at WPI that requires to be continously PI of several WPI affiliated projects and to have "habilitation" for supervising PhD students.

This research division drives innovative AI/ML projects at the intersection of computational sciences, mathematics, physics and materials science. By bridging these foundational areas of WPU with the latest advancements in AI/ML, the division innovates WPI’s mission of fostering synergies between high-level research projects in cutting-edge research and modern education on all levels.
